Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah, is an American musician and rapper. In music, film and television, Queen Latifah has received the award of two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award and six additional Grammy nominations, and nods to her Emmy Award. Queen Latifah's parents were Lancelot and Rita Owens. Both were police officers. Rita was a Newark New Jersey teacher, who taught in Irvington High School. The couple divorced when Latifah reached the age of ten. Latifah was raised in the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. Latifah is a word that means gentle and gentle. Her cousin gave it to her at the age of eight years old. Latifah was who was 5'10" tall forward on the high school team, was always a tall girl. The song she sang was Home from The Wiz at a high-school play. Latifah was a member of Ladies Fresh, a rap collective that started her journey into beatboxing. Latifah was one of those who were part of the first form of Flavor Unit which at that time consisted of MCs who were grouped around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King recorded an example of the rap Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. The recording was given to the host of Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music has signed Latifah after hearing the song. She released her first single Wrath of My Madness, in the year 1988.
